A useful planning number is about 2.1 minutes per MCQ on average. That is only an average: shared-prompt items can take longer, while some discrete questions should be faster. For FRQs, the better strategy is not simply “22.5 minutes each”; the questions differ in cognitive demand, so students should reserve time to read, plan, compute, and state conclusions in context.

What changed for the 2027 AP Statistics Exam?

The 2026–27 redesign changed both the course framework and the exam. This is why older AP Statistics guides can now be partly correct but still misleading for a 2027 student.

Do not over-correct the old syllabus

“Chi-square was removed” is too broad. The revision removed chi-square goodness-of-fit from required content, but chi-square reasoning for homogeneity and independence remains relevant in the revised course. Likewise, regression remains a major unit even though formal inference for a regression slope was removed.

What disappeared from the required core? College Board’s revision removed analyzing departures from linearity as a named topic, combining random variables, the geometric distribution, chi-square goodness-of-fit, and the former regression-slope inference unit. Older questions on durable reasoning can still be useful, but students should not build their 2027 study plan around removed topics.

What “fully digital” means for AP Statistics in 2027

Both the multiple-choice and free-response sections are completed in the Bluebook testing app. The old paper FRQ booklet is no longer the standard response method for this exam.

Bluebook provides an autosaving response box plus a toolbar with common formatting and mathematical/statistical characters. College Board’s 2027 guidance also allows clear keyboard-based notation where appropriate, so preparation should focus on communicating statistical meaning rather than hunting for symbols. The official AP Statistics Test Preview in Bluebook is expected in early 2027; once available, it should become the preferred place to rehearse typed responses.

What earns credit in an inference response?

A complete solution generally makes the target explicit, uses an appropriate procedure, verifies conditions with evidence from the scenario, performs the needed calculation, and states a conclusion in context with the correct strength and scope. A calculator result without the surrounding reasoning is not a complete statistical argument.

How to prepare for the revised exam efficiently

The best preparation mirrors what the exam asks students to do. Study should repeatedly move from a new scenario to a method decision, then to analysis, and finally to a written conclusion.

    Use the revised 2026–27 framework, not a nine-unit checklist copied from an older course outline. Know where probability, inference, and regression now sit.

The exam reports a final AP score from 1 to 5. Multiple choice contributes 50% and free response contributes 50%. College Board combines section performance and then applies score-setting standards; an unofficial fixed “curve” should not be treated as a guaranteed future cutoff.
