Fast answer: AP Statistics does not have a “no-calculator section.” For the 2027 exam, College Board expects a graphing calculator with statistical capabilities on both sections. Nongraphing calculators: not allowed in 2027

College Board’s 2027 AP Statistics update explicitly prohibits nongraphing calculators, even models with the statistical capabilities required for the course. Use Bluebook Desmos and/or an approved handheld graphing calculator.

Old calculator cheat sheets can send you to removed AP Statistics topics

The revised 2026–27 course removed the geometric distribution, chi-square goodness-of-fit, inference for a regression slope, combining random variables, and analyzing departures from linearity. A calculator may still contain commands for some of these topics; that does not make them current AP Statistics core content.

Why this matters: several otherwise useful calculator guides still teach geometric or chi-square goodness-of-fit because the calculator continues to support those commands. This page filters calculator capability through the revised 2027 AP Statistics framework.

Many calculator pages stop at button sequences. AP Statistics does not. The scoring value comes from connecting technology to a defensible statistical argument.

Six calculator mistakes that create wrong AP Statistics answers

Using proportions where a menu expects success counts.

Read the input labels. A test that asks for x and n wants integer successes and sample size, not p̂ and n.

Choosing the wrong tail.

The calculator follows your alternative. Translate “greater than,” “less than,” and “different from” before opening the test menu.

Confusing Sx and σx.

For sample data used to estimate a population spread, sample standard deviation is usually the relevant statistic.

Treating paired data as two independent samples.

For matched pairs, calculate differences first and analyze the single list of differences with a one-sample t procedure.

Reporting a p-value without conditions.

Correct arithmetic cannot rescue an invalid procedure. Randomness, independence, counts/shape and design requirements still matter.

Practicing legacy commands as if they are 2027 priorities.

Geometric, chi-square goodness-of-fit and regression-slope inference are no longer core topics in the revised AP Statistics framework.

They are not priorities for the revised AP Statistics core. The geometric distribution and chi-square goodness-of-fit were removed from the 2026–27 course framework.
