Restaurant Tip Out Calculator

Server tip-out, tip pool and shift distribution

Distribute Restaurant Tips by Sales, Hours or Points

Calculate server tip-outs, weighted tip pools, equal splits, cash owed after credit tips, and each participant’s final share. The live bar and payout table update as staff, hours, points and percentages change.

Shift and distribution method

Team members

For pooled tips, share weight equals hours × points. For equal split, hours and points are ignored. In role tip-out mode, the first three active rows receive bartender, busser and runner/host pools respectively; remaining tips stay with the server row.

Tip-out and pool result

Tip-out and tip-pool calculations

Pool mode multiplies each active employee’s hours by points, then divides the distributable tip pool in proportion to those weights. Equal mode divides the pool by active participants. Role tip-out mode calculates separate bartender, busser and support amounts from selected sales or tip bases.

Cash and credit tips

The calculator reports total tips, allowed card-tip deductions entered by the user, the distributable pool and a cash-settlement estimate. Actual payroll and cash-handling procedures vary.

Server tip-out versus guest tip calculator

This page is for restaurant staff distribution, not a duplicate of the DoorDash customer tip planner. It models shift roles, sales bases, hours and points.

What are tip-pool points?

Points are relative weights assigned by a restaurant policy. A participant with twice the points earns twice the share for the same hours.

Can managers be included?

Eligibility depends on law and facts. Do not add an ineligible participant merely because the calculator allows a row.

What if calculated tip-outs exceed the available tips?

The calculator stops and reports an error so the rates can be reviewed rather than producing negative server tips.
