Why the self-grader is transparent

The grader does not assign an opaque machine score to physics prose. It checks for potentially relevant evidence terms, then reveals the actual practice-rubric checkpoints. You decide whether your written response satisfies each checkpoint and receive a 0–10 practice score plus the missed evidence categories.

AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism free-response methods

For May 2027, E&M has four FRQs in 95 minutes (50% of the composite). Calculus-based work may involve electric-field integration, Gauss’s law, capacitors, circuit differential equations, magnetic flux and induction. A diagram should identify charge signs, current direction and symmetry before any integration.

Worked capacitor problem

For an ideal parallel-plate capacitor with plate area A, separation d and vacuum between plates, C=ε₀A/d. If the plate separation doubles while area remains fixed, C halves. With the capacitor disconnected after charging, Q remains fixed and stored energy U=Q²/(2C) doubles. If it stays connected to an ideal fixed-voltage source instead, stored energy U=(1/2)CV² halves. The boundary condition is therefore essential.

Faraday’s law reasoning

Induced emf is ε=−dΦB/dt for a one-turn circuit with the chosen orientation. The negative sign encodes Lenz’s law: the induced response opposes the change in flux. The sign convention depends on how the loop’s positive orientation is defined.

Experimental practice

Propose an experiment varying plate separation while keeping area and geometry fixed; measure capacitance repeatedly, plot C against 1/d, and explain fringing and stray-capacitance effects. Interpret slope and units rather than reporting correlation alone.
