Unit 1 exampleRandom sample, no random assignment

You may generalize to the sampled population if sampling is defensible, but you cannot automatically claim a treatment caused the difference. Write the scope before calculating anything.

Unit 2 exampleDo not jump straight to probability

The revised Unit 2 begins with two categorical variables. First compare conditional distributions or a two-way display; then move into simulation, probability, random variables, binomial/Normal models, and sampling distributions.

Unit 3 examplep-value language

Describe the probability of results at least as extreme as observed, assuming the null model—not the probability that the null hypothesis is true.

Unit 4 examplePairs change the unit of analysis

For before/after data, create one difference per individual and analyze those differences with a one-sample t procedure.

Unit 5 exampleResidual = observed − predicted

A negative residual means the model overpredicted that observation. Use residual plots to assess whether the linear form is appropriate.
