Estimate Calories Burned on a Stair Climber
Use body weight, duration and intensity, then compare the calorie estimate with steps, floors and vertical gain. Machine and real-stair modes use separate intensity presets rather than a generic activity multiplier.

Stair climber calorie formula
The calculator uses the standard MET relationship: calories per minute = MET × 3.5 × body weight in kilograms ÷ 200. The selected stair activity and intensity determine MET, and the optional correction adjusts the final estimate without changing the underlying workload metrics.
Steps, floors and elevation
Total steps equal steps per minute multiplied by duration. Floors use the entered steps per floor. Vertical gain equals total steps multiplied by average step rise, converted to feet and meters.
Does holding the rails matter?
Supporting body weight with the rails can reduce actual effort compared with an upright unsupported climb, so machine displays may overstate the user’s energy expenditure.
