Measure Rooms, Walls and Combined Areas

Measure rectangles, triangles, circles, trapezoids, L-shaped rooms, walls with openings or eight rooms together. Results include square feet, square yards, square meters, deductions, waste, boxes and project cost.

Material planning

Responsive area drawing

For irregular properties, divide the footprint into measured simple shapes and use the multi-room or repeated-calculation method. Survey bearings alone do not determine area without complete boundary data.

How to get the square feet of a room

For a rectangular room, measure length and width in feet and multiply them. Convert inches to feet before multiplying. For an L-shaped room, calculate the full outer rectangle and subtract the missing corner, or split the room into two rectangles and add them.

Walls, flooring, room volume and material coverage

Wall mode deducts entered doors and windows. For rectangle, L-shaped and multi-room floor plans, the optional ceiling height converts net floor area into cubic feet and cubic meters. Flooring mode can add cutting waste, divide adjusted area by box coverage and round up. The cost result separates area-based material cost, fixed project cost and sales tax.

Square footage questions

How do I find square feet from feet and inches?

Convert inches to a fraction of a foot by dividing by 12, then multiply the decimal-foot dimensions.

How many square feet are in a square yard?

One square yard equals nine square feet.

Can this measure a whole house?

Use the eight-room mode for a small group of rectangles or calculate each floor section separately and add the results. Exclude voids and non-floor areas consistently.
