Use shift mode for searches such as “what was 9 months ago from today,” “22 months from now,” or “25 months from now.” Difference mode reports complete calendar years, months and days as well as total elapsed days and an average-month equivalent.
Why January 31 plus one month needs a rule
Some target months do not contain the original day number. Clamp mode uses the final valid day of the target month. Roll mode carries the overflow forward. The result explicitly identifies when an adjustment occurred.
How long ago was May 31?
The May 31 preset selects the most recent May 31 and compares it with today. You can replace either date to answer the same question for any year.
Is nine months always 270 days?
No. Calendar months vary from 28 to 31 days. The exact elapsed days depend on the start date and leap years.
What does inclusive counting change?
Inclusive counting adds the ending calendar date to the total day count. It does not change the shifted result date.
Are holidays excluded from business days?
No. The calculator counts selected weekdays only because public holidays vary by country and organization.
