What is my golf handicap if I shoot 85?
A score of 85 alone is not enough for an official Handicap Index. Its Score Differential depends on the tees: (113 ÷ Slope Rating) × (Adjusted Gross Score − Course Rating − PCC). For example, 85 on a 72.0-rated course with a 125 slope and zero PCC gives a differential of about 11.8.
How the Handicap Index estimate selects rounds
With 20 scores, the lowest eight Score Differentials are averaged. With fewer than 20, the Rules of Handicapping use a table: three scores use the lowest one minus 2.0; four use the lowest one minus 1.0; five use the lowest one; six use the lowest two average minus 1.0; and progressively more low scores are used through 19.
Why can 85 mean different handicaps?
Course Rating and Slope Rating describe course and tee difficulty. An 85 on a difficult course can be a better performance than a lower score on an easier course.
