Fill Dirt Calculator

Compacted grade, loose delivery, tons and truckloads

Calculate Fill Dirt for Pads, Low Spots and Grade Changes

Model rectangular, circular or known-area fills with level or tapered depth. The result separates finished compacted volume from loose delivered volume and converts it to tons, truckloads and cost.

How the fill dirt calculator works

Finished compacted volume equals footprint area multiplied by average fill depth. For a tapered grade, average depth is the mean of the starting and ending depths. Loose delivery volume adds the entered compaction and settlement allowances. Tons use the entered loose density, while truckloads always round up.

Fill dirt is not decorative rock

Fill projects depend on grade, settlement and compaction rather than only decorative coverage. This dedicated calculator therefore reports compacted and loose volumes separately and does not reuse the landscape-rock density engine.

Should topsoil be included?

Calculate structural fill and topsoil as separate layers because they can have different depths, densities, prices and compaction behavior.
