Why crusher run needs a separate calculator
Crusher run contains graded stone and fines that lock together under compaction. A finished four-inch base does not mean ordering exactly four inches of loose material. This calculator first measures the required compacted volume and then applies a selected loose-volume factor plus explicit jobsite allowances.
Crusher run tons, yards and truckloads
Quarries may sell by ton while plans are measured in cubic yards. Tonnage depends on the supplier’s bulk density. Truckload count is rounded up because a partial final load may still be necessary; delivery charges are therefore based on whole loads.
Questions about crush and run
What density should I use?
Use the quarry or supplier value whenever possible. Moisture, gradation and source stone can materially change pounds per cubic yard.
Is the loose-volume factor the same as percent compaction?
No. It is an ordering multiplier applied to the finished volume. A 1.20 factor means planning 20% more loose volume than compacted volume before other allowances.
Does this check pavement design?
No. Base depth and drainage should be selected for soil, traffic and local construction requirements.
