Depth and lift planning

Enter the total compacted thickness required for the estimate. A project may need multiple lifts, and practical maximum lift thickness depends on mixture and equipment. The asphalt calculator does not decide pavement structure, base preparation or compaction procedure. Those choices require local conditions, expected loads and appropriate design guidance.

Allowance and truckloads

The allowance is applied after the base compacted tons are calculated. It can cover irregular edges, grade variation, small losses and ordering risk, but a larger percentage is not automatically better. Truckloads are rounded up from purchase tons divided by entered truck capacity. Actual dispatch may split loads differently or enforce minimum charges.

Cost scope

Material cost equals purchase tons times the entered price per short ton. Labor, mobilization, milling, tack coat, aggregate base, permits, traffic control and disposal are outside that number unless included in the price input. The asphalt calculator keeps material quantity and material price separate so a contractor quote can be compared without pretending to be a full bid.

Field measurement workflow

Measure several widths when the paved area is not rectangular, divide the project into sections and calculate each section separately. Confirm whether dimensions are finished or excavation dimensions. Then compare the total asphalt calculator quantity with supplier minimums and the paving crew’s placement plan.
