How to calculate wrapping paper for a box
A practical rectangular-box sheet needs enough paper to travel around one pair of box faces and close the two ends. This calculator tests two orientations. For each orientation, the across-roll dimension is the chosen box base dimension plus twice the box height. The cut length wraps around the other box cross-section, so it is twice that base dimension plus twice the height plus the entered seam overlap.
The selected orientation must fit across the roll width. Complete sheets are then cut along the roll length. Waste reduces effective roll length for planning, and rolls are rounded up to whole purchases. The area result is useful when comparing sheets and rolls, but roll width remains a physical constraint that area alone cannot solve.
Measure the actual box
Include protruding lids or packaging in the dimensions. Add more overlap for thick paper, large boxes, pattern matching or inexperienced wrapping. Cylinders, baskets and irregular gifts require a different cutting model and are intentionally not treated as rectangular boxes.
Why can a roll have enough area but still not fit the box?
The required sheet must fit across the roll width; total square area alone cannot overcome a roll that is physically too narrow.
