How the Air Force BTZ calculator works
Current AFI 36-2502 states that fully qualified Regular Air Force promotion to Senior Airman occurs after 36 months time in service and 20 months time in grade, or after 28 months time in grade, whichever phase point occurs first. Below-the-Zone consideration advances the qualifying date by six months.

The calculator places the estimated BTZ promotion month into the official quarterly pattern: January–February processing for April–June promotions; April–May for July–September; July–August for October–December; and October–November for January–March. The board or selection months are March, June, September and December.
Does a calculated date guarantee BTZ eligibility?
No. The estimate is not MilPDS or myFSS. Your servicing MPF must verify the roster, prior consideration, promotion ineligibility conditions and skill-level requirements.
What about an adjusted date of rank?
The current instruction says an A1C with prior-service credit producing an adjusted DOR is not eligible for SrA Below-the-Zone. The calculator flags that condition.
Quota note: Large-unit and central-base-board quotas use 15% eligible-population rules, but small-unit pooling and command approval affect the official result.
